Her Majesty's Coastguard is responsible for the initiation and co-ordination of civil maritime search and rescue with in the United Kingdom Search and Rescue Region.
This includes mobilization, organisation and tasking of adequate resources to respond to persons in distress at sea, or to persons at risk of injury or death on the cliffs or shoreline of the United Kingdom.
The volunteer members of the Morecambe Coastguard search and rescue team are very proud to be a part of this globally recognised organisation.
Morecambe Bay is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK coastline. It is a haven for wildfowl and is popular with watersports enthusiasts and tourists as well as supporting a fishing industry. Inviting as it is, it can sometimes be a trecherous place though, with fast rising tides, hidden channels and quicksands. Morecambe Coastguard works with other local agencies to ensure that when someone gets into difficulty they are given assistance as quickly as possible.
Apart from direct Search and Rescue services Morecambe Coastguard team members also promote beach and coastal safety through talks to schools and other groups as well as promoting the work of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at public events.
